Maetzold Amphitheater 3652 W 76th St, Minneapolis
The first official meeting of the Minnesota Tea Society! Yes, it was small. And in some aspects maybe this can’t really be considered the first one but part of these tea meetings is leaving our comfort spaces to drink tea in public with people we may not know or know very little. We plopped ourselves right down in the amphitheater and had ourselves some great cups of tea. The mosquitoes probably enjoyed themselves too.
We drank:
- Tencha. Producer – Yamamoto Jinjiro. This company is located in Uji, Japan. If you ever have the chance to visit, stop by this shop. They have the oldest tencha refining machine in the world. Their tea absolutely blew me away. It is important to note that the machine is in their private living quarters and thus not available to be seen by the general public.
- Genmaicha. Producer – Obubu Tea. Another company located in Japan but this one is a bit harder to get to. Obubu Tea is in the lovely mountain town of Wazuka, about a 42-minute drive south of Uji. Obubu Tea is a pioneer company with regards to how they run their company. Read more about them here: Obubu Interview
- Can’t remember. I thought I wrote down what we drank but past the genmaicha, it all just disappears. I will update this at some point if I remember.
If you would like to join our events please go to our website and look for future dates listed here.
Lastly, our society is in its infancy. We need a lot of help beyond just having people show up for the meetings. If you are interested in becoming a donor or just helping out in any capacity please let us know!
