All for Tea & Tea for all

Tea gathering #8

February 22nd, 2025. Saturday. 10 am – St. Louis Park Library

Apologies. I forgot to add this as a post to our main page.

Sponsors: Plum Deluxe, and Davidson’s Organics

With a balance of structure and spontaneity, I believe our group soup has found a solid foundation. While loose-leaf tea remains our primary focus, I find it essential to explore the diverse tea traditions and flavors from cultures worldwide. In this meeting, we sampled seven different teas and tisanes—some rare, others more familiar and suited to a sweeter palate.

This meeting may have felt a bit overwhelming for those new to the tea world, but I sincerely hope it left you eager to learn and explore more. The rich culture of tea can transport you to incredible places, and my hope is that through these gatherings, we can help Minnesota experience tea and tisanes in fresh, exciting ways. Below, you’ll find a list of the teas we sampled during the meeting—click on each name to learn more.

Lastly, if you are interested in doing more for the MN Tea Society (showing up counts too!) we are looking for these things: 2-3 more people to help us form as a nonprofit, people who wish to present, people who want to help with our social media, etc.

Teas savored at this meeting:

  1. Easy To Be Green by Plum Deluxe. A sweet blend that is good hot but I believe would also be lovely iced.
  2. Himalko White Tea by Himalko. A nutty white that had many reminiscing about wild rice.
  3. Sun Rogue by Marumo. Tea & Science! This rare Japanese green tea contains a high amount anthocyanin content. I meant to bring my lemon juice for the science part but luckily there was an orange on hand! After squishing the orange we added in some drops and watched it change color!
  4. Oriental Oolong. We aren’t sure who produced this one but it was tasty! The one thing I did discern is that it was bought at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
  5. Ma Li Shu Spring 2022. Sheng Puerh by Fatbat Pu erh. Dark teas are a rabbit hole category. Sometimes hard to approach but once you do you jump in and enjoy forever. Of course, it is also very helpful to have a company that has provided us with amazing samples! Everyone really enjoyed this one.
  6. Dragon Claw by Thai on Tea. We have tasted this very unique tea at other meetings. While traditional teas are made from leaves and stems this tea is made from the axillary buds. The taste will blow your mind.
  7. Pears and Cinnamon by Plum Deluxe. We ended the meeting with a tisane tasting while learning about the difference between red rooibos, green rooibos, and honeybush.

Davidson’s Organic Tea generously provided us with eight different tea bag boxes to sample and review. If you’re interested in tasting and reviewing their selection, please reach out to us at mnteasociety@gmail.com.

Thank you to everyone who showed up for the meeting!

Our next meeting will be:

Saturday, March 22nd, 10 am. Ramsey County Library – White Bear Lake.
